Shirdi Sai Baba’s 9 Coins on tour in Europe 2014
9 ways of devotion to the Divine
S
hirdi Sai Baba is one of the greatest saints of India. Most time of his life he stayed near the Indian village Shirdi in a small, broken open mosque, where he had no protection from rain nor heat. He decided to live the life of a beggar and sadhu even he could have lived like a king. His devotees offered him millions of rupees, but by the end of the day he stood there with empty hands, as he had given everything to the poor.
Shravanam
Listening to tales about God, his greatness, the miraculous accomplishments and glory of God.
Kirtanam
Devotional music by singing and reciting the names of God and his perfection.
Smaranam
Remembering God by calling on his names and his perfection
Shirdi Sai Baba‘s simple appearance disguised the truth of spiritual greatness. An incarnation of Shiva, Baba was a rare yogi, an avadhut, with highest supernatural abilities. His yogic feats were countless: He brought the dead back alive, changed water into oil, appeared at different locations at once, rescued countless devotees from life-threatening situations, and finally gave his life to save his beloved disciple Tatya. Not only he performed many miracles during his lifetime, but till today he is very active and helpful.
Pada Sevam
Right before leaving his body, Shirdi Baba gave a promise to the world that he will answer all those who call upon him in full faith.
Archanam
“I will never forsake anyone who relies on me.” As Shirdi Sai Baba predicted in his lifetime, the number of devotees who have faith and ask for help are steadily increasing around the globe. His life was an expression of the unity of all religions and our essential divine oneness. Baba said, “ All men are one, our religion is humanity”. Nobody knew whether Baba was Hindu or Muslim. Before Baba left his body on 15th Oct 1918, he gave 9 Coins as Prasad to his fellow disciple and devotee Laxibai Shinde for her selfless seva. They are symbols for 9 types of devotion to the Divine, or 9 different ways to reach God.
